Female Sexual Dysfunction

How Does Viagra Help A Woman’s Sexual Function?

Testosterone is present in both men and women. The amount of testosterone a woman needs to function properly is generally 90% less than a man. We typically find that women who no longer have the desire to be intimate have little to no testosterone at all. This occurs in young and older women alike. This happens for a variety of reasons.

Some of these reasons include:

  • Age
  • Menopause
  • Birth control use (which can permanently shut down testosterone production)
  • Anti-depressants (which also can permanently shut down testosterone production)
  • Pain medication

We use a gentle approach. We check a women’s blood levels and the physician reviews the lab value with the patient. The physician then starts with a low dose of testosterone made at a compound pharmacy which is put into a cream for the women to use each day. This is usually enough to return a woman’s desire and sexual function. Hormone creams absorb differently with different people, so sometimes based on feedback from the patient and follow up labs the testosterone dosing needs to be increased or decreased. In some of our patients using a testosterone cream is not enough.

There is another successful prescription medication nick named by compound pharmacies “ scream cream.” This medication is blend of Sildenafil Citrate, L-Arginine, Ergoloid Mesylate, Amino phylline, and Testosterone. A woman applies this to her labia before intercourse. These ingredients work similarily to viagra and help a woman’s sexual functionality in most of the same way that it helps a man’s. For women to become fully sexually aroused, she needs a lot of blood flow to her vaginal area. In some women, especially those who are taking certain antidepressants or who suffer from certain physical problems, the body’s natural ability to create this blood flow is impaired. Scream cream helps to restore this function and to allow a woman to become aroused when she feels the desire to have sex. Just as Viagra helps men with erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis, this labia cream causes blood to flow to women’s sexual organs and potentially increases sensitivity.
